my go-to patios in lexington

One of my favorite things about summer in Lexington is patio season. Give me a sunny afternoon, a good drink, a few friends, and a place to sit outside, and I'm pretty much set. As someone who spends a lot of time exploring Lexington, people are constantly asking me for restaurant recommendations. And while there are plenty of great patios around town, these are the ones I find myself returning to again and again.
dudley's on short
Tucked into the middle of downtown Lexington, the courtyard patio feels surprisingly tucked away from the city around it. It's one of my favorite date-night spots and always feels a little special—whether we're celebrating something or just grabbing dinner on a random weeknight. If you're trying to impress an out-of-town guest, this is always a solid choice.
the grove
I've spent a lot of time at The Grove over the years—both behind the bar and out on the patio. The space is unlike anything else in Lexington. Between the murals, greenery, string lights, and open-air atmosphere, it feels like a little oasis tucked into the city.
mama tequila
I celebrated my last birthday here, and it's become one of my favorite places for a casual dinner or happy hour with a group. The patio has a fun, energetic vibe, the margaritas never disappoint, and it always feels like summer when you're sitting outside here.
lost palm
When I need a little escape without actually leaving Lexington, Lost Palm is usually where I go. The rooftop setting, tropical atmosphere, and city views make it feel like you're somewhere much farther from home.
kentucky native café
If you've never been to Kentucky Native Café, stop what you're doing and put it on your list. Located inside Michler's Florist and surrounded by greenery, it feels more like a hidden garden than a restaurant patio. Every time I visit, I'm reminded how special this place is. It's quiet, beautiful, and somehow manages to feel magical no matter how many times I've been. This might be my favorite hidden gem in Lexington.
charlie brown's
Charlie Brown's has been one of my favorites since college. It's one of those classic Lexington spots that feels familiar the second you walk in. While the interior gets most of the attention, the patio deserves some love too. It's a Lexington institution for a reason.
merrick inn
There are certain places that just feel timeless, and Merrick Inn is one of them.
The patio is beautiful, especially during the warmer months when everything is blooming. It manages to feel both elegant and comfortable at the same time.
If you're looking for a classic Lexington dining experience, Merrick Inn rarely misses.
minton's
Minton's has always been one of my favorite brunch spots in Lexington. But their rooftop patio is especially great during patio season. If you're looking for a laid-back weekend patio, this one deserves a spot on your list.
Lexington has no shortage of great patios. These are simply the patios I find myself returning to over and over again. Some are tied to celebrations. Some are tied to friendships. Some are places I visit when I need a little reset after a busy week. And that's really what makes a great patio—not just the food or drinks, but the memories attached to it.
