Local things I’m excited about in 2026 (Lexington edition)

Every year, I love taking a step back and looking at what’s coming to Lexington — not just big developments, but the little things that make everyday life here so good. Walkability, live music, local food, creative spaces, green spaces, and the events that bring us all together.

As we head into 2026, there’s a lot to be excited about. Here are a few local updates, openings, and returns that have me genuinely looking forward to the year ahead.

🎶 A new live music venue is coming to Lexington

If you’re a live-music lover, this one’s big.

The Rail — a brand-new indoor/outdoor music venue — is opening at The Commons this fall. Translation: more local shows, more touring acts, and fewer nights spent asking, “Okay, who’s driving to Cincinnati?”

This feels like a huge win for Lexington's music scene — both local artists and fans. I’m especially excited to see how this space adds to the energy of The Commons and the surrounding neighborhoods.

🌳 Arboretum upgrades are underway

One of Lexington’s most-loved green spaces is getting some thoughtful updates.

The University of Kentucky Arboretum is in the middle of improvements that include expanded parking and more modernized facilities — making it even easier to enjoy whether you’re popping in for a quick walk or spending a slow afternoon outside.

As someone who’s always advocating for outdoor spaces and walkable living, I love seeing continued investment in places that make Lexington feel calm, connected, and livable.

🎨 Wheelhouse Art Gallery is expanding

Lexington’s creative scene continues to grow — and this is a win for artists and art lovers alike.

Wheelhouse Art Gallery, originally based in Louisville, is opening a second location here in Lexington. More gallery space means more opportunities for local artists, more shows to attend, and more creative energy downtown.

I’m always excited when Lexington attracts projects that support art, culture, and small creative communities — it’s a huge part of what gives the city its character.

🍴 Crave Food & Music Festival is back

After taking a year off, Crave Food & Music Festival is returning — with a new location but the same great vibes.

This longtime Lexington favorite brings together local chefs, restaurants, and musicians for one big, delicious weekend. If you know, you know.

Events like this are such a reminder of how strong (and supportive) our local food scene really is.

🍽️ New places to eat & drink

Lexington’s food and beverage scene just keeps growing — and 2026 is shaping up to be another great year for it.

A few highlights on my radar:

  • Carson’s Back Porch

  • A new Mirror Twin Brewing taproom

  • Nothing Bundt Noodles

  • And more restaurants and expansions popping up around town

Whether you’re a longtime local or new to Lexington, there’s always something new to try — which is exactly how I like it.

👟 Livengood in Lex Walk Club returns

This one’s personal. Livengood in Lex Walk Club will be back with weekly walks and hangs starting early spring. We’ll be exploring some of Lexington's favorite neighborhoods and gathering in the Warehouse Block afterward.

Walk Club has always been about more than walking — it’s about slowing down, connecting with neighbors, and experiencing the city in a really intentional way. I can’t wait to catch up with everyone again.

🎉 Our favorite Lexington events are coming back

Some things just feel like tradition — and 2026 brings back several of them.

Think:

  • Railbird Festival

  • Tahlsound

  • Woodland Art Fair

  • And more annual events that remind us why we love this city

There’s nothing like running into familiar faces, discovering something new, and feeling that shared Lexington energy.

Good things are coming to Lexington in 2026

This list isn’t exhaustive — and that’s kind of the point. Lexington continues to grow in a way that still feels rooted in community, creativity, and quality of life.

If you’re thinking about what it looks like to live here — not just own a home, but actually enjoy your day-to-day life — these are the kinds of things that matter.

If you made it this far, I’d love to know: which one are you most excited about?

And if you ever want to chat neighborhoods, walkable living, or what it’s really like to call Lexington home — you know where to find me.
